چکیده
A49-year-old female presented to the hospital with abdominal pain and emesis. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a small-bowel obstruction and a right ovarian mass measuring 4.6 cm. Following oophorectomy, histopathology revealed a mature cystic teratoma with multiple foci of benign thyroid tissue, as well as a 0.9 cm focus of follicular variant papillary thyroid cancer (Figs. 1 and 2) surrounded by normal ovarian tissue (Fig. 3). Thyroid ultrasound and serum thyroid function tests were normal. A I diagnostic whole body scan (WBS) did not reveal any abnormal uptake in the abdomen or pelvis, and an abdominal CT was normal. A high-dose (423 ı̀ Ci) I WBS performed 6 months later was also negative. Based on the small size of the primary carcinoma and the lack of evidence of metastases on imaging, the patient received no further treatment. Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) arising from ovarian teratomas is a rare occurrence, with an estimated incidence

An unusual variant of malignant struma ovarii.
Struma ovarii is a highly specialised form of mature ovarian teratoma. When thyroid tissue constitutes 50% or more of the ovarian neoplasm, the tumour is termed struma ovarii. Malignant struma ovarii is rare and makes up 0.1-0.3% of all ovarian teratomas [2]. We describe a case of follicular variant of papillary carcinoma arising from struma ovarii with elevated CA-125 and pseudo-Meig syndrome.

Mature cystic teratomas form approximately 20% of all ovarian tumours. Of these, approximately 15% include benign thyroid tissue. When thyroid tissue comprises more than 50% of the ovarian teratoma, it is termed ‘‘struma ovarii’’. The exact incidence of malignancy in struma ovarii is hard to evaluate, because of its uncommon nature. The aim of this study is to report a rare case of follicular v...
متن کاملPapillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma Arising Within a Mature Ovarian Teratoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Mature cystic teratoma is the most common kind of ovarian germ cell tumor. Malignant transformation is uncommon, with thyroid cancer rarely found. Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma has rarely been described as associated with ovarian teratomas. We report a case of a 34-year-old woman who presented with abdominal pain and an ovarian mass. After surgery, the patient was diagnosed with a follicular...
متن کاملMalignant Transformation of a Mature Cystic Ovarian Teratoma into Thyroid Carcinoma, Mucinous Adenocarcinoma, and Strumal Carcinoid: A Case Report and Literature Review
Malignant transformation of a mature cystic teratoma (MCT) is an infrequent, often asymptomatic event. We report the first example of a struma ovarii with a focus of follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (a), mucinous adenocarcinoma (b), and strumal carcinoid tumor (c)-all three arising in one mature cystic teratoma of the ovary. From our reviews, we found limited data to guide mana...
متن کاملPapillary Carcinoma Derived from Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma: A New Case Report and Literature Review
Introduction: Papillary carcinoma arising from thyroid tissue in mature cystic teratoma (MCT) of the ovary is extremely rare, and it is not easy to diagnose preoperatively. No clinical, no radiological, no biological signs are specific to malignant transformation. Case presentation: A 51-yearold woman had a left ovarian tumor measuring approximately 18 cm diameter with malignant transformation ...
